Secrets. Surprises, & Eternal Love

The Morning After

Willow looked around surprised. She was in the stacks of the old high school library. She could almost smell the books. She wandered the aisle until she reached the middle. That was when she saw him. He was sitting on one of the tables. He was wearing those tight, faded black jeans...no shirt. Willow studied him for a moment, completely oblivious to everything else in the room. She had been amazed at how tender and gentle he had been. It had been unbelievable, all three times. She hadn't even minded when he had bitten her. In fact, it had heightened her pleasure.

(He's mine...) she thought, still a bit disbelieving.

She was startled when she heard him chuckling. It was then she noticed that he was not alone. A feeling of dread and despair filled her when she saw who was talking to so animatingly.

(NO!) she cried silently, turning to rush back into the stacks. Willow woke up gasping for breath. She turned to study the man beside her. He was smiling slightly in his sleep.

(Oh Goddess.....what did I do?) She got out from under his arm and hurriedly got dressed. She had seen Buffy come in earlier. She hadn't said anything to her friend, content to lay in Spike's arms. She went to the stairs and was relieved to see that Buffy had left the door open. Turning to take one last look at her love, she blinked away tears as she headed up the stairs.

Spike woke slowly. He was in a state of shock.

(That dream...unbelievable. Wait until I tell Willow....) He suddenly noticed that Willow wasn't beside him. His anxious gaze swept the room. He couldn't smell her. A thin ray of light came in from the top of the stairs. Anger and confusion replaced the anxiety. She had left him.

**********

When Willow had gotten home, she had pulled off her clothes and collapsed on her bed. She didn't know what to think. She wondered if she should have stayed. She really did love Spike, but seeing that dream had bothered her. She felt betrayed. She drifted off to sleep. Something was tickling her nose. She opened her eyes and came face to face with a stuffed cat. Shrieking, she jerked back. A sexy chuckle filled the room.

She looked up into Spike's amused eyes. "What are you doing here?" she squeaked, pulling the covers up.

"You aren't covering anything that I haven't seen, Pet." Willow blushed and gnawed on her lip.

She looked at her loved questioningly. Spike sat down in her desk chair. "You left." he stated quietly."Why?"

Willow looked around the room and was silent for a few moments. She didn't know what to say. She didn't know what he would say. She felt frightened and bit curious. She took a deep breath. She had to know why. It might kill her, but she had to know.

"I was in your dream."

Spike's gaze narrowed. "What dream would that be luv?"

Willow felt tears forming in her eyes. "Why? I thought you loved me? You said you loved me!"

Spike moved towards her. "I do love you. Why the bloody hell can't you believe me?" He reached for her.

She moved to the other side of the bed, away from him.

"You were dreaming about HER!"

She spat out. "We made love...THREE times and yet you were dreaming about her!"

Realization dawned in Spike's eyes. "The library..."he muttered.

Willow nodded, tears freely falling. "Why her? Why Drusilla?" she asked quietly.

Spike sat on the bed. He took Willow's hand in his. "It isn't what it seems Kitten. Sit down....I'll tell you. It rather difficult to talk about, but you have to know the whole story. Last year, when I left here, I went back to Dru in Brazil. You have to know now that I love her. I always have and, despite the love I feel for you, I always will. As I told you, eternity. I do hope you understand that luv. You have nothing to fear though. I am with you. I belong with you. After I got back with Dru, I realized things weren't quite the same. She couldn't really trust me. I discovered that I still loved her, but I wasn't IN love with her any more. In the years since Prague, I had become almost like her father....watching out for her...feeding her...taking care of her. It wasn't like it used to be. After the hell Angelus brought, it never could be." He turned and propped himself up on some pillows.

Closing his eyes, he continued, "I took her away from Brazil. We went to France. Dru always liked the taste of French food. While in Paris, I ran into an old acquaintance. Nicolas had run with us back in the day. He is gentle sort of chap, very patient. Not like me at all. He also used to be very enamored with Dru. To make a long story short, Dru stayed with Nic in Paris while I came back to Sunnydale. She is very happy. Nic plays with those damn dolls and takes her out to fancy parties. He doesn't mind her little lapses into looniness. She will always have my love and I tell you now, if she ever needs me, I'll be there before she can finish asking. But she is my past. YOU are my future."

Willow listened in silence. She still felt a weight on her soul. "If she's the past, Spike, why were you dreaming about her?"

Spike brought his hand to Willow's cheek. He laughed softly. "Pet, I wasn't dreaming about her. She brought me there....Hell, she brought US there."

"She brought US there?" Willow asked.

"I didn't know you had come in. I was planning to tell you about it this morning, but someone lost their confidence and overreacted..."He said smiling.

Willow punched his arm. "Tell me now!" Spike laughed, glad to see her spirit returning slowly.

"It was all Dru. The dreams....everything."

"WHAT?"

"I was as surprised as you. It seems that Nic heard from a friend about my um...interest in you. Dru heard about it. She told me that she still loves me, but is very happy with her new "daddy". She wanted me to have the same happiness. So, she and Nic found some ancient spell and she decided to use it. It only worked if both parties were all ready in love, so she didn't think it would hurt. We were to dream of each other until our love was consummated. Then, no more dreams."

Willow was sitting there in shock. Dru had been the cause of her happiness?

She looked at Spike and said, "No more dreams?"

He slowly nodded. "What was the library?" Spike took her into his arms, she laid her head on his chest. "Dru wanted to meet the mortal who stole her Spike's heart."

He kissed the top of her head. "I also think she wanted to gloat a bit. She could feel when the spell had been consummated. She brought us into her dream to tell us everything and, in a way, give her blessing. SHE chose the library. She told me she thought you would be more comfortable in a familiar setting. She also said she liked the smell of the books. She still wants to meet you luv. She told me Miss Edith approves of you, that she said you would be a great match for me."

Willow slowly ran her hand down his chest. "I feel very foolish. I was jealous." She suddenly laughed.

"Do you realize that Buffy and Drusilla set us up? How odd is that? I don't think I'll tell Buffy. She feels so proud thinking she did it all. I'd hate to hurt her."

Spike caressed her abdomen....moving up to her breast. "Let the slayer take the credit. Just don't let Dru find out. She hates the Slayer passionately. Nic has calmed her down a bit, but she would really go nutso if she knew the slayer was taking the credit."

"Hmm.....I can keep a secret. Do you forgive me?"

Spike looked into her eyes. "This time. Next time, you stay. Eternity, remember? I don't want to wake up without you beside me again. Enough talking. I can think of so much more we could be doing, can't you?" His lips caught hers in a bruising kiss.

"Yes, Spike" She whispered.
